"It's really sad that Gargamel still thinks of you as his daughter, even if you were nothing more than a creation designed to destroy the Smurfs, Mama," Psycheliana said.
"I know, Liana, that's one of the things that I regret, ever being related to that evil wizard," Smurfette said. "Anyway, the Smurfs were safely returned to the village, and progress on the Smurf Day Pageant Play was proceeding smurfily, but now we had a new problem that I had to rectify as the play's producer."
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw the Smurfs that were busy at the construction site of the Pageant Play stage, getting closer to its completion. Meanwhile, Smurfette and Brainy were in a discussion together.
"Smurfette, you must give the audience what it truly smurfs after...a Smurf who will smurf the lead role in your play," Brainy said. "And I for one want to willingly offer myself as the one who will smurf the lead role."
"Oh, Brainy, please...I don't have time to discuss it now!" Smurfette begged.
"But when are you going to smurf the announcement?" Brainy asked. "It's getting closer to the day, and rehearsals have yet to start. You've got to make a decision while we still have time."
"Just leave me alone, okay?" Smurfette said. "I promise you will know soon enough."
"Gee, Smurfette, thanks to Pappy Gargamel, we still need to smurf flowers for the play," Sassette said as she read through her list of things on her clipboard.
"Oh dear...the show can't smurf on without the flowers!" Smurfette moaned. "It smurfs like I'd better take care of that myself!" With that, she headed off into the forest again.
Brainy then turned to Papa Smurf. "Well, if I was in charge of the play, Papa Smurf, we would at least know who would be the Smurf in the lead role by now!" Brainy complained.
Papa Smurf chuckled. "I'm sure we would, Brainy, but I think that for now Smurfette is smurfing a very good job. In fact, once this play is over, we should smurf something to show our appreciation for Smurfette's hard work."
"You know, I think this situation calls for a little relaxation, Brainy," Jokey said, producing a cigar. "Go ahead, I'll light it up for you."
"This doesn't have any smurfnip in it, does it, Jokey?" Brainy asked, looking at it suspiciously.
"No, but it will really blow your mind," Jokey said, producing a lighter.
Brainy put the cigar to his mouth while Jokey lighted it. "You know, this isn't such a bad idea after all..."
Suddenly the cigar blew up in Brainy's face. "Surprise!" Jokey laughed.
Brainy watched as Jokey walked away. "Oooh, that sneaky Jokey Smurf!"
Smurfette was walking through the forest where she saw rows upon rows of beautiful flowers. "Oh, these will look smurfy for the pageant play!" she said. "I must smurf back here with..." And then her nose picked up a scent coming from somewhere, a scent that was tantalizing to Smurfette's nose. "Oh my, what is that fragrance?"
Smurfette followed the scent until she came across a flower with a large pink blossom. "I've never seen a blossom like this before!" she said, sounding excited to have found a new kind of flower. She stood near the blossom and sniffed, only for the blossom to close up in on itself and trap Smurfette inside. "SMURFS! HELP!" she cried out.
Gargamel showed up, laughing as his blossom has captured his prey. "What have we here? It looks like this sweet little snapdragon has captured me a Smurf, and soon it will bring me a whole bouquet of Smurfs!" he said delightfully as he plucked the blossom from the ground and carried it away with him along with Smurfette still trapped inside.
The evil wizard came home to Scruple preparing part of the potion for the spell. He opened up the blossom and gave Smurfette to Scruple to take hold of while he completed the rest of the potion.
"Let me go! Let me go!" Smurfette cried out as she struggled uselessly in Scruple's hands.
"I'm sure you'll feel differently, Smurfette, once I turn you back into what you used to be...my dearest little daughter," Gargamel said as he continued preparations.
"No! You wouldn't!" Smurfette protested.
"Yes, he would!" Scruple retorted. "And once you're back to the way you were, maybe we can become friends."
"I wouldn't ever be friends with you, Scruple!" Smurfette ranted.
Scruple laughed. "We'll see."
"And when I'm finished, you will be mine for all time," Gargamel said, laughing as he poured in the final ingredient. "All that's left to put in is the Pesky Powder." Then he chanted, "The time is right, the spell is set, now give me back my old Smurfette!"
The cauldron glowed as soon as the incantation was finished, and then a glowing white ball emerged, bouncing all around the room until it struck Smurfette, who was still in Scruple's hands. "YEOW!" Scruple said, letting go of Smurfette.
Gargamel looked at Smurfette after the glowing ball had touched her. "Oooh, something's wrong! She still looks the same!" he grumbled.
"Thank Smurfness!" Smurfette as she got up from the floor and started to run for the door.
"Egads! Grab her!" Gargamel ordered. Scruple gave chase to Smurfette, but Smurfette led Scruple into stumbling over a stool that she leaped over in her escape. She went over to an open window and left the hovel through it.
"Drat! I don't understand!" Gargamel complained as he looked at his spell book. "I followed the spell perfectly."
"Maybe there's something you forgot to do, Gargy...like perhaps turn the page!" Scruple said as he got up and turned the page of his master's spellbook.
"You mean there's more?" Gargamel said, sounding surprised. "Curses! That means the spell is incomplete!"
Scruple read from the spell book. "Not according to this book. It says that the full effects of the spell won't take place until the night of the full moon," he read aloud.
"The night of the full moon?" Gargamel said. "Why, that's tonight!"
"So how do we know that the spell has taken full effect, Gargy?" Scruple asked.
"When I first sent Smurfette into the village, I gave her a compact with a magic mirror that would allow her to contact me through mine, my apprentice," Gargamel answered. "She should still have it in her possession after all these years. If she does contact us through it, then I will know for sure that my dearest daughter is back!"
Gargamel laughed at the thought of his daughter's return to being evil, as did Scruple and Azrael.
"Great Ancestors, Mama, that evil Gargamel thought that he had smurfed one over you, that the spell wouldn't smurf its effect until the night of the full moon," Psycheliana said.
"But you did escape from Gargamel, didn't you, Auntie?" Miracle asked.
"Fortunately I did, Miracle, and I told all my fellow Smurfs what had happened when I was captured by Gargamel," Smurfette said. "Of course, at that time I didn't believe that Gargamel's spell would smurf its full effect on me, but I would eventually find out later that night."
And as Smurfette continued her story, Psycheliana and Miracle saw that she was back in the village, telling her story to her fellow Smurfs as well as Papa Smurf, who seemed relieved that Smurfette had escaped.
"It was horrible, Papa Smurf, horrible!" Smurfette cried out. "I barely escaped through the window!"
"Aye, that evil wizard is up to no good!" Duncan said. "I would surely like to have been there in his hovel, smurfing haggis out of his innards!"
"But thank the Almighty that she has escaped, though I fear what's going to happen to her if Gargamel's evil spell has been successful," Tapper said.
"Papa Smurf, you can resmurf the same spell that you smurfed on Smurfette that smurfed her into a real Smurf now, can't you?" Slouchy asked.
"I'm afraid that the Adam's Rib Spell works only once, Slouchy," Papa Smurf answered. "If that was the case that Gargamel's spell has worked on her, then I'm afraid that we will lose Smurfette forever."
"And she will be evil just like Pappy Gargamel," Sassette realized. "But at least we will still be sisters, since we're smurfed of the same formula."
"You and Smurfette still be sisters?" Snappy said. "Ha! She will betray us to your Pappy Gargamel!"
"Snappy is right, Sassy," Nat said. "Smurfette will become evil just like Gargamel, and she will be his servant forever."
Weepy then burst into tears. "Oh, this is just so sad!" he bawled as he wiped his eyes with his handkerchief.
"Oh, don't cry, Weepy," Smurfette said, trying to console him. "I'm still here, and Gargamel's spell hasn't smurfed its full effect on me...at least not yet."
"Still, I'm going to pray for you, my dear Smurfette, that the Almighty's protective hand shall be upon you to smurf you from all evil," Tapper said.
"I say we forget about what Gargamel tried to smurf on Smurfette and just focus on smurfing the play to fruition, right, laddies?" Duncan said.
"RIGHT!!!" all the Smurfs said together.
Smurfette sighed. "At least I feel glad that my fellow Smurfs are smurfing out for me. Anyway, it's back to work, because the show must go on!"
Papa Smurf and Tapper watched as Smurfette and the other Smurfs walked away together. "What smurfs to be on your mind, my little Tapper?" Papa Smurf asked.
"I just feel in my spirit that things will smurf aught for my dear Smurfette, Papa Smurf," Tapper said sadly.
"We can only hope and pray for the best," Papa Smurf said, trying to sound encouraging. "I too will be asking Mother Nature and Father Time for their providence in this situation, should it be that worse smurfs to worst with Smurfette."
"I can only hope that prayers will be enough," Tapper said, sighing.
That night, as the clouds were moving in the sky, Smurfette was with Tailor and Clumsy, who brought over a rack full of dresses and a box full of hats.
"So here are all the costumes for the play, Smurfette," Tailor said.
"And here are all the wigs and hats," Clumsy said, putting down the box in front of Smurfette.
She reached into the box and pulled out one of the hats. "My smurf, isn't this so darling?" Smurfette said, putting the hat next to her head.
Then suddenly a bit of moonlight shone through the clouds, and Smurfette felt strange...almost as if a dark side of her was about to emerge. She then snickered maliciously, which made Tailor and Clumsy look at her strangely.
"Why, look at these hats!" Smurfette sneered. "They smurf like a bunch of ragweed!" With that, she tossed the hat that she was holding aside.
Tailor and Clumsy watched in shock as Smurfette did that. "Smurfette! How could you do that!" Tailor cried out.
"Oh, me?" Smurfette said, sounding as if she was innocent. "Well, I don't know. It just smurfed out of the blue."
"Gosh, Smurfette, I've never known you to smurf things like that...you know, after you became a real Smurf and all," Clumsy said.
Then Smurfette laughed maliciously again. "So what do you care? This is who I am, and if you don't like it, that's your problem!"
"But I smurfed all day to make that hat that you smurfed aside, Smurfette!" Tailor tried to reason.
"So what?" Smurfette snarled. "We've all been a little busy lately! Why don't you two just smurf out of here and leave me alone?"
"All right, Smurfette, we'll be leaving, okay?" Clumsy said fearfully.
"We'll smurf back here when you're ready to listen," Tailor said as he and Clumsy departed from the house.
"Golly, what do you think has gotten into Smurfette?" Clumsy asked Tailor.
"Smurf me if I know," Tailor replied as the two of them walked away. "It's like she's been smurfed by the light of the full moon."
Meanwhile, Smurfette looked at her door, wondering what she just did. "Oh dear...one moment I was thanking them for their help and the next moment I was smurfing them out the door," she said to herself. "I could only wonder what is wrong with me."
Then the clouds parted, and the light of the full moon shone brightly. At that moment, Smurfette could feel herself changing from her Smurfy self into something else. She saw herself in the mirror and noticed that her blond hair was shrinking and turning black.
"Oh no!" Smurfette cried out. "Gargamel's spell...it's working!"
Papa Smurf in the meantime was working on an experiment when he heard banging on the door. "PAPA SMURF! PAPA SMURF!"
He recognized the voice. "Smurfette! What's wrong?"
"Oh, hurry, Papa Smurf...I'm changing!" Smurfette pleaded.
"I'm coming, Smurfette," Papa Smurf said as he put his experiment on hold and went to answer the door. But by the time Papa Smurf answered the door, he found that there was nobody there.
"Smurfette! Where are you?" Papa Smurf asked as he looked around, trying to look for Smurfette.
Smurfette rushed back to her house and closed the door, but it was too late. Her Smurfy self was now transformed into her old un-Smurfy self with the short frizzy black hair. "It feels good to be back!" she smiled evilly.
"Smurfette, are you there?" she heard Papa Smurf asking as he was knocking on her door.
"Drat! He's going to find out!" Smurfette muttered to herself. She then looked into the box of hats and wigs and found a curly blond wig that she could wear to disguise herself.
"Smurfette, please tell me what's smurfing on," Papa Smurf called as he continued knocking.
Smurfette opened the door, wearing her wig. "Oh, hi, Papa Smurf," she pleasantly greeted.
"Is there a problem, Smurfette?" Papa Smurf asked. "You were at my door a few minutes ago and you said that you were changing."
"I said that?" Smurfette said, making it sound like she forgot. "Oh, the truth is that I was just changing my hairstyle for the occasion of the play. Don't you like it?"
"Well, there's something about you that's different, and I don't know what," Papa Smurf responded. "Anyway, I'm in the middle of an experiment, so unless it's a real emergency, please don't bother me."
"I promise I won't, Papa Smurf," Smurfette said. "I'm sorry to have bothered you."
Papa Smurf sighed. "You go smurf some rest, because it smurfs like you need it. I will see you again in the morning."
"Good night, Papa Smurf," Smurfette said as she watched Papa Smurf leave.
After he was gone, Smurfette took off the wig, put it under her hat, and started looking frantically around the house for something important. And then she found something familiar. "This must be my magic compact! I'll open this and let Gargamel know I'm back!"
Smurfette opened the compact and the mirror's image changed to that of her former master Gargamel. "Smurfette, is that you, my dearest daughter?" Gargamel asked.
"Of course it's me, your daughter, Master Gargamel," Smurfette replied. "Just meet me by the Great Oak out in the forest."
"It's good to have you back, my sweet Smurfette," Gargamel said as his face faded.
Smurfette laughed. "Your 'dearest daughter'. You have no idea who you're dealing with."
